GCash Launches GCASH FOR GOOD in Cebu

Leading mobile money platform, GCash, introduces today GCash for Good, a pioneering corporate social responsibility program that enables Filipinos to donate to non-government organizations (NGOs) that champion worthy advocacies from education, environment to animal welfare among others.

At the same time, GCash invites NGO partners from Cebu and other nearby cities and provinces to join the GCash for Good platform to create a community where doing good and giving back is open to all.

VP for Corporate Communications Reyner Villasenor said GCash for Good is another big step to further develop the GCash app into a more socially relevant and sustainable platform that help addresses issues across different levels of society.

He said GCash, operated by operated by Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt), is well-equipped to become a springboard for donations to non-government organizations that champion various advocacies, thanks to its scale and innovative digital platform. Thus, the GCash executive is calling on all NGOs in Cebu and other cities and provinces to join the GCash for Good as their partner in spreading good to all.

“With GCash for Good, GCash users can use the GCash app to donate to various groups to create an impact on society. This allows GCash to be a more inclusive and open platform that will help create better opportunities for millions of Filipinos. I am calling on all our NGO friends in Cebu and other nearby locales to join us as we spread the power of good through GCash,” Villasenor said.

For interested NGOs, some regulatory requirements need to be completed before becoming official GCash for Good partners to ensure the organizations are legitimate and the money donated cannot be abused.

The GCash for Good program currently involves 35 NGOs, which are included in the initial batch after completing their documentation requirements both from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and Mynt before the program was launched.

During the GCash for Good launch in Cebu, Villasenor also disclosed that that people now prefer to donate online, as this removes the hassle of having to go through long queues and processes, giving them more time to focus on their daily lives.

He quoted a study by 2017 Global Trends in Giving which shows that 54 percent of individuals prefer to donate online, while the total volume of donations made online grew by a strong 12.1 percent.

Various researches also show a growing trend in micro-donations and crowdfunding, with sites like Patreon and Kofi gaining massive support. According to Tech’s Good, micro-donations range between $0.25 and $10. This kind of donations, although small at a time, can make a huge difference once added up.

“With innovative mobile money technology like GCash, people who want to do good are now empowered with a more efficient experience Any amount will create huge opportunities for organizations that forward different issues. With GCash for Good, users will also have direct access to where their donations go. It showcases a more transparent ad user-friendly interface for anyone to access, ” Villasenor stressed.

WHAT OUR PARTNERS ARE SAYING ABOUT GCASH FOR GOOD

“The team at GCash really need to be commended for providing concerned citizens with a highly accountable platform to support the causes they are passionate about. It doesn’t matter how much one can afford to give – every Peso to a good cause counts. GCash for Good can be a powerful tool for direct citizen engagement and an important contribution to helping the Philippines to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Titon Mitra
Country Representative, UNDP

“Filipinos have a good heart. We have seen this time and again at Lingkod Kapamilya. They give even when they themselves are in need. Gcash for Good complements this admirable trait. It puts the channel for giving right in people’s hands.”

Susan Afan,
Managing Director, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation

“After a decade in development work supporting our social enterprises, I have seen the difficulties that non-government organizations face in mobilizing funding support for even the most worthy of causes. That is why I am excited to see what Gcash for Good can do for the development community. With more Filipinos feeling comfortable about giving online, GCash for Good could be a game-changer.”

Jeannie E. Javelosa,
Co-Founder, ECHOstore and GREAT Women
Director, ECHOsi Foundation

“The past few months have been divisive for the country, so this initiative is a most welcome change for all of us. To see that a company like GCash is working to create a community of givers is truly encouraging. It shows us that the spirit of bayanihan is alive and well in our society. We live to serve. God Bless to all stakeholders.”

Fr. Anton Pascual
Executive Director, Caritas Manila

“We are at a critical time in history when the impacts of climate change and unsustainable consumption could become irreversible if we do not act swiftly. The challenges that we face as an organization can be overwhelming. Knowing that we are not alone, that there are private partners like GCash who believe just as strongly in a future where humans and nature thrive, gives us hope that we can make things better. With GCash for Good, we hope more Filipinos would be more aware that every little decision they make counts.”

Joel Palma,
President and CEO, WWF-Philippines

“As a humanitarian organization that caters to the most vulnerable Filipinos in any part of the country, the Philippine Red Cross, too, could use some help. In this mobile-driven age, GCash for Good can open up opportunities for us to receive support from those who want to be part of what we do everyday.”

Elizabeth Zavalla,
Secretary General, Philippine Red Cross

“We have always been a proud partner of GCash, and we believe that with GCash for Good, the concept of nation-building will become more accessible to people. Giving will be easier using the mobile wallet—even children can give to their fellow children who were left behind by our fallen soldiers. It makes doing good everybody’s business.”

GMovies: Changing Film Experience through Data and Convenience

GMovies, a product developed and enabled by Globe Telecom, is changing the very nature of the film going experience. By providing movie buffs a chance to purchase tickets even before the premiere date, GMovies is bringing convenience, embodying their tagline for customers to “Get Inside, Not in Line.”

GMovies is the only movie ticketing platform in the Philippines that aggregates more than 100 cinemas nationwide while including capabilities that elevate the ticket purchasing experience — from advanced booking and automated movie alerts about showing schedules, to seat reservation, preferred cinema selection and multiple payment options.

It has forged strong partnerships with some of the malls chains in the country, such as Ayala Malls Cinemas, SM Cinemas and Robinsons Movieworld, in order to provide another avenue for their consumers.

GMovies

“GMovies was designed to address the pain points of the Filipino moviegoers,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and Chief Executive Officer. “We love going to the movies and it has become part of our culture to visit the cinema several times during the month. Our goal was always to make it easier for them, to elevate the experience, to allow them to focus on what matters: the movie and their enjoyment.”

However, having the best platform is only one part of the equation. It is important to reach the audience in the most efficient way possible. This is where data and an effective digital strategy comes in.

“The movie watching habits of Filipinos vary,” said Glenn Estrella, Senior Vice President of Globe Digital Ventures, the business unit that manages the platform. “Some base their selections on the genre, some on the influence of their friends, and some on when it’s convenient. There’s even a growing population that just wants to be the first to watch for fear of spoilers. You can’t just create blanket ads and hope that it reaches the right people. You have to be smart. You have to be precise. You have to make each impression count.”

This is where the power of data insighting and smart social media targeting comes in. Utilizing transaction history, social media behavior, and Facebook’s powerful ads manager, GMovies has been constantly reaching its desired audience: Genre-based, mobile agile consumers who value convenience and efficiency brought on about digital transformation.

The results from these Facebook ads have been nothing short of impressive as GMovies saw an increase in reach and engagement and a reduction in marketing spend. The impact on sales is also undeniable as advance booking numbers grew more than 59 times than what it was in previous years.

“The Philippine consumer landscape is complex, and competition is tough,” says John Rubio, Country Director for Facebook Philippines. “But with Facebook for Business, we help companies spend their marketing dollars more efficiently by reaching the right customers at the right time and place. We’re happy that GMovies can deploy a more sophisticated strategy using our platform, and we’re even happier that they are changing the movie watching habits of the Filipino.”

With its suite of features and its solid strategy, it looks like the long lines at the cinema will be a thing of the past.

GMovies is available on Google Play and the App Store. Users can also purchase through the GMovies website and through GCash.

  1. Cartons to Creations

Through recycling, beverage cartons are given another life as other useful products. Once empty drink cartons go through the recycling process, the paper fibres are separated from the rest of the materials at a paper mill which are used to produce different types of paper-based products such as notebooks, paper bages, etc. The extracted polymers and aluminium are processed as a composite material, or separately, and then used to make a variety of new products such as roofing sheets, recycle bins, school desks and benches and other items.

Officially opening to the public last March 15th, Shell Mango Station boasts of a wide range of features designed to cater to the specific needs of the community surrounding it.

“This station’s concept was co-created by Shell with the University of San Carlos students and faculty, to make sure that we offer is relevant to them” Ricky Altonaga, Pilipinas Shell District Manager for Visayas, said. “We designed Shell Mango to be an oasis, a community hub where students can study at the second floor of our two-story Shell Select while public transportation is accessible to commuters at the PUV terminal that we have on-site,” he added.

Mango Avenue is home a number of restaurants, educational institutions, malls, churches, banks, and other establishments.

“We believe that Mango Avenue is geographically strategic as the location of our pioneering station,” reveals Kit Bermudez, Pilipinas Shell Retail Marketing and Strategy Director. “And of course this is our way of giving back to our loyal Cebuano customers who have been supporting Shell for a long time.”

Aside from offering world-class, high-quality fuels Shell V-Power and Shell FuelSave, the site also hosts a Shell Helix Oilchange+ that offers reliable but affordable oil change packages and other vehicle care services.

Motorists can find respite in Shell Select and Deli2go, which offer a wide range of items such as filling meals, snacks to go, fresh food and drinks, and local delicacies. Food options are aplenty as you can also get your fill from kiosks like Potato Corner, Shawarma, and Bubble Tea Station.

As part of Shell’s commitment to reducing environment impact and promoting more sustainable practices, Shell Mango features green elements such as solar panels to help cut down energy costs and a self-irrigating plant wall to cut down the station’s carbon footprint. It also has a rain-water collector that allows the station to use run-off water for the plants in the landscaped area. The site also uses Knoxout exterior paint to convert air pollutants into breathable air. The station also fully utilizes LED lighting and inverter technology for chillers and air conditioning units for better energy efficiency.

“As part of our 105 years celebration of partnering with the Philippines in nation-building, we are truly proud and excited to bring this enhanced retail experience to our beloved Cebuano customers,” Bermudez added.
