Recognizing them as “true stars” of the season, Bluewater Resorts will give support to 12 beneficiaries this Christmas in Oslob and Mactan, Cebu and Panglao, Bohol.

To help, all three Bluewater Resorts will launch a Christmas benefit dinner, featuring a delicious buffet spread of Bluewater Christmas treats and sweets. Part of proceeds will go to selected charities.

Food from Cebu towns, cooking battle at the Capitol

Eleven Cebu towns vying for cooking glory clashed last 18 to 19 at the Cebu Provincial Capitol for the 2017 “Eats Meets West”, an annual cooking event organized by the Provincial Government through the Provincial Tourism Office.

Eats Meets West is the output of the Cebu Community-based Ecotourism Project of the Provincial Government that was started in 2015. It was intended to help develop authenticity and pride of place highlighting the value of local cuisine

The grand opening took place on November 16 in Tuburan town, which showcased its homegrown coffee.

On November 17, a whole-day “Food Forum” was held at the Capitol Social Hall, with seven experts taking on topics like the ancient diets of Cebuanos, what Cebuano cooking really is, healing with food, organic farming, and design for food. The speakers were Dr. Ame Garong of the National Museum, Mike “Chef Tatung” Sarthou, Teresa Ruelas, Eleonor Rivera, Vince Cinches, Cristino Villamor, and Manila’s Ige Ramos. The forum, which was open to the public, was attended by 265 guests.

The “Food Festival” also started on the same day, November 17, with different stalls located at the back of the main Capitol building offering different foods from several Cebu towns. The 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. food festival lasted up to November 19.

The culinary competition took take place in the next two days, or on November 18-19, with the towns competing for the honor to be adjudged as having the best appetizer, welcome drink, dessert, main course, welcome lei, pasalubong, table set-up, and packaging.

The towns also competed to come up with the “best interpretation” of a Cebuano recipe from a 1923 cookbook of Maria “Señora Inday” Fadullon Rallos.

One special highlight of the event was the cooking demo by Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who prepared her version of the leche flan.

She said the dessert holds a special place in her heart as it was the dessert she prepared for her husband right after their honeymoon .

Her tip on how to come up with the best leche flan? “Always, you put love into your cooking,” she said.

Samsung launches Wind-Free Air Conditioner at CES 2017

Through new cooling technology, the Samsung AR9500M guarantees enhanced air conditioning and reduced energy

Samsung Electronics unveiled its first ever, award-winning Wind-Free™ wall-mounted air conditioner at CES 2017 in Las Vegas, following the huge success of its floor-standing Wind-Free™ air conditioner in South Korea. The AR9500M air conditioner has integrated Samsung’s exclusive Wind-Free™ Cooling technology into its design – providing customers with better cooling comfort and optimal energy efficiency with each use. With the AR9500M, families can enjoy quality time and fun bonding moments at home without the uncomfortable feeling of direct cold air blow in the room.

“Consumers will love the cool, efficient air conditioning capabilities of the AR9500M in their home,” said Byung-Sam Seo, President of home appliances at Samsung Electronics. “And they will really love that they no longer have to deal with uncomfortable, cold air – as well as reduced electric bills.”

The AR9500M provides customers with the ideal condition by maintaining the comfortable room temperature, using Wind-Free™ Cooling to gently disperse cold air through 21,000 micro air holes. A two-step cooling system which first lowers temperatures in “Fast Cooling Mode” and then automatically switches to “Wind-Free™ Cooling Mode” creating “still air” once the desired temperature is reached. This approach can also reduce energy consumption by up to 72 percent compared to Fast Cooling mode

Using Samsung’s new Digital Inverter 8-Pole with POWERboost technology™, the AR9500M’s motor generates fewer torque fluctuations – reducing the overall energy required and shortening the time needed for the compressor to reach its maximum speed(Hertz).

The AR9500M features an Ultra-Wide PM 2.5 filter which assures customers that the air produced is purified and ideal for the home.

The AR9500M’s unique Triangle Architecture has a wider inlet which allows more air to be drawn in at once, while the optimal width and angle of the outlet, extra v-blades, and large fan – 22 percent larger than previous models – ensure air is cooled and expelled faster, farther and wider, to reach every corner of the room.

The AR9500M air conditioner will be available in Samsung Experience Stores and authorized dealers nationwide in March 2017.

* The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers defines “Still Air” as air currents at speeds below 0.15m/s which lacks the presence of cold drafts.

** Tested on AR07M5170HA, based on the accumulated power consumption of Fast Cooling Mode vs. Wind-Free™ Mode. When compared to Normal Cooling Mode, Wind-Free™ Cooling Mode consumes 55% less energy.

Filipino-owned Emperador Buys Mexico’s No. 1 Brandy

After two landmark purchases of European liquor brands last year, the world’s largest brandy company is now expanding to the Americas

As part of its aggressive global expansion, Filipino liquor company Emperador, which is now considered to be the world’s largest brandy company, through its Spanish subsidiary Bodegas Las Copas, is purchasing the Domecq brandies and wines of Pernod Ricard in Mexico. The landmark buyout includes Mexican brandy brands Presidente, known to be Mexico’s No. 1 selling brandy, Azteca de Oro and Don Pedro.

This gives Emperador access to the brandy market in Latin America, particularly Mexico where the Domecq brandies take half of the entire brandy market. Latin American countries have over 600-million population to date.

“This recent acquisition fits perfectly with our strategy to fortify Emperador’s status as the no.1 brandy company in the world,” says Winston Co, president, Emperador, Inc.

“The entry into Mexico will strengthen Emperador brandy global position through Presidente brandy, which is Mexico’s no. 1 locally produced brandy,” adds Richard Lañeda, senior analyst, COL Financial Group.

Just in February this year, Emperador also completed the purchase of the brandy and sherry businesses of Beam Spain, S.L., which include four iconic brands – Fundador, the oldest and largest Spanish brandy in the world; Terry Centenario, the No. 1 brandy in Spain; Tres Cepas, the largest selling brandy in Equatorial Guinea; and Harveys, the no. 1 selling sherry wine in the world.

Emperador also operates a global Scotch whisky business, which Emperador bought in 2014. Whyte and Mackay has a rich heritage of a Scottish spirits, which is the fifth largest Scotch whisky manufacturer in the United Kingdom with prestigious brands like The Dalmore, Jura Single Malt Whisky, Mackinlay’s Shackleton Malt Whisky, Whyte & Mackay Scotch Whisky, Vladivar Vodka, among others.

Emperador brands are available in 100 countries around the world. ###

OPPO Unveils F1s Limited, Alden Richards as New Endorser

Selfie expert’s limited edition unit, new endorser revealed

The guessing game is finally over. After several days of waiting and speculation on social media, mobile technology brand OPPO finally unveiled the ‘new face of the selfie expert’—the special edition F1s Limited that sports a metallic grey color.

But the F1s Limited is not only OPPO’s new face. The smartphone brand also confirmed today that Kapuso heartthrob Alden Richards is joining the OPPO family as one of its new brand ambassadors.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alden Richards to our growing OPPO family,” Brand Marketing Manager Stephen Chengsaid. “We can’t wait to see how Alden will help us redefine our selfie-taking experiences.”

The F1s first made waves among Filipino smartphone users last August. The new smartphone was such a hit that more than 19,000 units across the country sold out in just three days after its debut.

National sweetheart

Alden Richards expressed his excitement to work with OPPO, the Philippine’s second bestselling smartphone brand according to a report by German-based market research firm GfK.

“Selfies capture life’s most unforgettable moments in a very spontaneous way. I’m proud to be part of a family that celebrates those special moments,” Richards shared.

Richards is the other half of the phenomenal power couple AlDub, who stars in a segment of long-running noontime show Eat Bulaga. The love team generated a record-breaking number of tweets last March in one of their episodes, a feat recognized by the Guinness World Records during the tenth anniversary of micro-blogging site Twitter.

The selfie expert

Nicknamed the ‘selfie expert’, the OPPO F1s has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera that can snap bright selfies even in dim light thanks to its large aperture. It also helps users achieve a flawless look through its upgraded beautifying app, Beautify 4.0.

Apart from static selfies, the F1s can create moving images using its Super GIF feature, as well as double-exposure shots that juxtapose two images in one photo to create a sense of motion.

Lightning-fast fingerprint recognition also unlocks the phone in 0.22 seconds. Five fingerprints can be assigned to five contacts or applications for quick access.

The F1s is currently available in gold and rose gold. Concept and dealer stores nationwide will take pre-orders of F1s Limited starting today until November 11. Pre-orders can also be placed through the online shop Lazada. Customers who pre-order will also receive anexclusive set of VR and selfie stick for free.

Megaworld’s 9-mo rental income surges 15%; pulls net profit up to P9.27-B

MANILA, Philippines, November 09, 2016 ‐ Property giant Megaworld’s rental income soared 15% in the first three quarters of the year, pulling up the company’s 9-month income. Rental income, which comes from the company’s expanded office and commercial retail portfolio, reached P7.41-billion in the first nine months of 2016 from P6.44-billion during the same period last year.

During the past months, Megaworld has opened new malls and commercial centers in its various integrated urban townships, particularly Uptown Bonifacio, McKinley Hill, Forbes Town Center, Iloilo Business Park, The Mactan Newtown, and Twin Lakes; and new office towers in McKinley West, Uptown Bonifacio, The Mactan Newtown, and Iloilo Business Park.

It also expanded its hotel portfolio with the introduction of another local hotel brand, Belmont Hotel, which launched its first hotel in Newport City late last year, in addition to its homegrown Richmonde Hotels in Eastwood City, Ortigas, and Iloilo.

The Philippines’ biggest developer of integrated urban townships and the largest lessor of office spaces, achieved a net income of P9.27-billion during the first nine months of 2016, 11% higher than P8.35-billion during the same period last year.

Consolidated revenues grew 5% during the first three quarters of 2016 on a year-on-year basis. The growth is an increase from last year’s P33.53-billion to P35.26-billion this year.

“Our fundamentals remain strong and we are happy to see that our anticipated aggressive growth in our rental businesses continues. What we are now witnessing is the transition of Megaworld from being just a builder into becoming a landlord. This means that the company will be insulated from any cyclicality from the residential business while having steady or even higher growth moving forward,“ says Francis Canuto, treasurer, Megaworld.

Earlier this year, Megaworld unveiled its 21st integrated urban township, the 140-hectare Maple Grove in General Trias, Cavite. The development’s masterplan is to have an eclectic mix of residential, office, retail, and institutional components in an environment friendly community. Another vast township is scheduled to be launched before year-end, bringing the company’s number of townships across the Philippines to 22 this year.

Megaworld’s township developments started with Eastwood City in Quezon City, (18 hectares); and was replicated onwards with Newport City in Pasay City (25 hectares); McKinley Hill (50 hectares), McKinley West (34.5 hectares), Uptown Bonifacio (15.4 hectares) and Forbes Town Center (5 hectares), all in Fort Bonifacio; The Mactan Newtown in Cebu (30 hectares); Iloilo Business Park (72 hectares) and Sta. Barbara Heights (173 hectares), both in Iloilo; Boracay Newcoast in Boracay Island (150 hectares); Twin Lakes in Tagaytay (1,200 hectares); ArcoVia City in Pasig City (12.3 hectares); Southwoods City in the boundaries of Cavite and Laguna (561 hectares); Davao Park District in Lanang, Davao City (11 hectares); Alabang West in Las Piñas City (62 hectares); Suntrust Ecotown (350 hectares) and Maple Grove (140 hectares) both in Cavite; The Upper East (34 hectares) and Northill Gateway (50 hectares) both in Negros Occidental; Capital Town Pampanga (35.6-hectares); and Westside City in the Entertainment City in Paranaque (31 hectares.)
